Upcoming Training Workshops
RIS and Becker Library host a series of Computing Basics workshops. These virtual workshops are designed for those without any prior experience using the Unix Command Line Interface (CLI), Docker container technology, and High-Performance Computing (HPC). Each workshop will occur on Zoom from 1 PM to 2:30 PM on the dates below. Additional workshops will vary in time as they are offered. Additional workshops may be offered at other times and in person.

Computing Basics – Software Applications Used in High-Performance Computing Environments

This webinar is offered by Becker Library and WashU’s Research Infrastructure Services (RIS). a variety of software applications are used in high-performance computing environments. This session will introduce text editors, shell and batch scripts, Docker container technology, and the SSH protocol. Attendees will learn how to write, edit, and run shell scripts, how to create a simple Docker container, and how to connect to the RIS compute platform.
Computing Basics – Submitting Jobs to RIS Scientific Compute Platform

This session will introduce basic queue system commands for submitting jobs to RIS Scientific Compute platform. Attendees will learn how to use Docker images and the queue system commands to run jobs on the command line interface.

The Center for Theoretical and Computational Neuroscience at Washington University in St Louis will hold its first “Minds and Machines” Annual Public Lecture at 5 pm on May 17th. The speaker is Professor Terry Sejnowski, one of the world’s leading computational neuroscientists, and a recent recipient of the Brain Prize for Neuroscience from the Lundbeck Foundation. Prof Sejnowski’s lecture is entitled “Brains and AI”, and will discuss the latest developments at the interface between Neuroscience and Artificial Intelligence. The event is free and all are welcome!
