Research Infrastructure Services Projects

The Research Infrastructure Services projects are part of the RIS mission to facilitate the discovery of knowledge and enhance educational opportunities by providing secure, sustainable, scalable, and integrated research technology services in a collaborative and diverse environment. These capital projects have been approved and funded by governance and have implementation project teams to help gather requirements and facilitate the education and consumption of these new services. The PPMO of the CIO manages these projects.

Data Storage Platform Upgrade

After one year of gathering requirements and executing RFPs and POCs, Qumulo was selected as the new vendor for the Storage Replacement Project. This new platform will provide twice the performance, reduce operational complexities, and include offsite backups and disaster recovery capabilities. General availability will take place in the Spring of 2024 and the transition will vary depending on the research group.

SCOPE (Scientific Compute Operation Platform Expansion)

We are thrilled to share that in late FY25, we will be releasing the $5 Million SCOPE capital project to add even more CPU and GPU resources in a new cluster. With these upgrades, we are confident that our computing platform will continue to exceed your expectations. Our computing platform is sufficiently equipped to meet your needs, and we are excited to announce the expansion of our capabilities in April, with an addition of 1,000 CPU cores and 40 A100 GPUs to our existing cluster, allowing you to take full advantage of our resources.
