Compute1 Decommission Timeline

The Compute1 system is scheduled for decommissioning, effective July 1, 2027. Compute1 will remain operational at no cost until that date, to give you time to transition your workloads.

• Minimize disruption.
• Ensure a smooth transition to Compute2, the future of high-performance computing at WashU.
• Continue to offer support for your research computing needs during this transition.
• Provide additional communications leading up to the end-of-life date.

❗️Actions to take:

• Coordinate with your sponsor regarding migration planning to Compute2.
• Contact us at the RIS Service Desk with questions or concerns.

Below are milestones that will take place throughout fiscal year 2026 and continue into fiscal year 2027, until the decommission of Compute1.

Note: Condo owners will be contacted regarding the eligibility of their Compute1 Condos and will select a migration round.

Compute1 Allocations Date: September 1, 2025	We are no longer accepting new Compute1 allocations.
Subscriptions Allocations Date: October 1, 2025	We are no longer accepting new Subscriptions on Compute1.

Milestones	Details
Compute1 Condo Migrations Estimated Date: April 2026	Condos will be migrated to Compute2. RIS will contact you regarding the eligibility of your Compute1 condo to migrate.
Spring Maintenance Estimated Date: May 2026	No new hardware or network updates will take place after spring maintenance.
Subscription Service Tier Estimated Date: July 1, 2026	The Subscription Service Tier will be retired.
Software Installations, Upgrades, or Bug Fixes Estimated Date: After July 1, 2026	We will no longer install, upgrade, or perform bug fixes for OOD, THPC modules, or 3rd-party software (SMRT Link, Dragen, NVIDIA).
General Access Estimated Date: January. 1, 2027	New users cannot be added to General Access allocations on Compute1.
Compute1 Retired Estimated Date: July 1, 2027	Compute1 will be retired, and all new allocation requests will be made on Compute2.
