NIH GDS Security Standards Update

Beginning on April 2, 2025, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is implementing changes that require new and renewing Approved Users to attest to compliance with the updated security standards in the NIH Security Best Practices for Users of Controlled-Access Data.

Users approved before April 2, 2025, should continue to secure data according to the NIH Security Best Practices for Controlled-Access Data Subject to the NIH Genomic Data (GDS) Policy until the project closes out or renews.

For more information, please review the Implementation for Data Management and Access Practices Under the Genomic Data Sharing Policy (NOT-OD-24-157).

For direct inquiries, please contact GDS@mail.nih.gov.

RIS is the only support facility that meets WashU’s security requirements and is here to support your research for those impacted by this deadline. Please reach out to the RIS Service Desk for assistance or questions.
