Subscription Tier Retirement

September 30, 2026

The Subscription Tier will be retired September 30, 2026, as we continue to move toward the decommission of Compute1 on July 1, 2027.

❓Why

This transition allows us to focus on Compute2, the next-generation of high-performance computing at WashU, ensuring researchers have access to more modern and efficient resources.

Moving forward, Slurm Reservations will be available on Compute2 starting September 1, 2026. Slurm reservations allow WashU researchers to lock in dedicated Compute2 nodes with CPUs or GPUs for fixed windows. Perfect for tight deadlines, projects, or time-sensitive runs.

💪🏻 Benefits or reservations:

  • Guaranteed and exclusive access to resources
  • Reduced wait time
  • Predictable scheduling

✅ Our priority:

📢 Actions to take:

  • Review the Compute1 Decommission Timeline.
  • Coordinate with your sponsor regarding migration planning to Compute2.
  • Meet with a RIS Facilitator to discuss setting up a Slurm reservation on Compute2 or use the general queues after September 30, 2026.
  • Contact us at the RIS Service Desk with questions or concerns.
